The Power of Allowing: Why Forcing Blocks Your Flow

Updated: Jun 15

If you want a high probability of achieving what you desire, you need a plan.

But there’s one subtle shift that can make or break your results , the difference between allowing and forcing.

Let’s bring this to life with one of my favourite Greek storytellers, Aesop.

His timeless fables use simple stories to reveal profound truths about human nature.

The North Wind and the Sun

The North Wind and the Sun were arguing over who was stronger when a traveler passed by, wrapped in a thick cloak.

“Let’s see who can make him remove his cloak,” said the Sun. The North Wind agreed and blew with all its might.

But the harder the wind blew, the tighter the man clung to his cloak.

Then it was the Sun’s turn.

The Sun gently warmed the air, slowly increasing its rays.

The traveler, now basking in the warmth, loosened his grip. He took off his cap. Then his cloak.

Eventually, he lay down in the shade, seeking relief from the sun’s glow.

Gentleness and kind persuasion win where force and bluster fail.

This fable beautifully captures the difference between forcing and allowing.

So here’s the real question:If there’s something on your mind right now - a decision, a goal, a desire; are you forcing it, or allowing it?

In my decades of coaching people toward their soul-aligned visions, I’ve seen this again and again:

The greater your doubt about the people, opportunities, or timing life brings you... the more tempted you’ll be to push.

But force only creates friction. Allowing creates flow.

That doesn’t mean sitting back and doing nothing, it means taking aligned steps while trusting the process.

Listening. Adjusting. Opening. Not gripping.

So today, take a breath.

Check in. And if you feel yourself forcing… pause and reset.
